approximately 1h30.

The river Arade is a river of Portugal located in the Algarve region, which rises in the Serra do Caldeirão and passes through Silves, Lagoa and Portimão going to the Atlantic Ocean, in Portimão, immediately east of Rocha beach. At the time of the Portuguese discoveries it was navigable to Silves, where an important port existed. Today, due to the enormous silting, only small boats can arrive there. Portimão is the great port of Arade.
The Government authorized the Administration of the Ports of Sines and the Algarve to start dredging in the estuary of the river Arade, in Portimão, a work that aims to increase navigability.

The estuary and the mouth of the River Arade are hosting a campaign of underwater archeology from Sunday to September 11. Four years later, researchers will resume a project begun in 2012 and will begin by re-evaluating the archaeosites already identified, in order to plan the fieldwork that will be needed.

The 19th edition of the International Ascent of the River Arade in Canoeing will take place on October 15th. The event will have two aspects - one of nautical tourism and the other of competition, directed to Clubs and Associations - with the scheduled departures for the riverside area of Portimão, next to the Naval Club, at 11:00 am (nautical tourism) and 11:30 a.m. (competition).
